Local Engine
Scruffy detects it automatically, keeps it available from the tray, and handles signed updates and recovery without becoming a second workspace.
Account security
Paired devices
Rename, revoke, or securely re-pair Local Engine registrations. Revoking cloud access never deletes local results.

Signed updates are checked, staged, health-checked, and safely rolled back if needed.
Committed jobs, checkpoints, and pending saves survive browser or engine restarts.
History readiness
Data
Scruffy checks the encrypted cache first, downloads only missing authorised candle days, and verifies each day before use.
Previously downloaded days are reused while their authorisation remains valid.
Missing days arrive directly from S3 after authorisation; the site does not carry candle bytes.
Verified days remain encrypted. Retention follows the dataset policy; this pilot uses session-only caching.
Strategy connection
Strategy
Your Python strategy connects only to the Local Engine. Scruffy validates its identity, compatibility, and declared parameters before enabling a run.
Connect Strategy
Start your strategy with the Scruffy Python SDK. It will appear here after the local authenticated connection succeeds; cloud script saving is optional.
Review
Backtest results
Inspect performance, risk and every simulated trade.
No result selected
Open a completed local or saved run to inspect its simulated price, execution, equity, and drawdown history.
Optimise on this computer
Optimisation
Configure a search, follow its progress and review the candidates before choosing your next test.
Start with a completed backtest, then configure your search.
Backtest required
Run a backtest first, then choose Optimise this strategy in its completed results.
Search method and review
Review your goal, parameter ranges and search size. The Local Engine manages population, stopping rules and CPU workers for you.
You can pause the search or close this page while the Local Engine continues running. Return to this search to review its candidates.
No search selected. Configure an optimisation in Set up.
Shortlist and compare candidates, inspect their trades, or choose Optimise from this result to explore other variables using its settings and the same date range.

How saved runs work
Only compact summaries you choose to save are synchronised to Scruffy Cloud. Limit: 200 saved results and 100 project summaries; archived project summaries expire after 90 days.
Automatic care & support
Settings
Normal use needs no tuning. Advanced Local Engine settings and diagnostics open in the protected local view.
Downloaded history is encrypted for this Windows user and retained for seven days.
Signed releases install through the verified updater with health checks and rollback.
Atomic checkpoints preserve committed runs, optimisation candidates, and pending cloud saves.
Eligible cached runs continue with a recent entitlement grant; cloud save resumes on reconnection.
